Celebrate Recovery FAQ

What is Celebrate Recovery at Abba's House?
Celebrate Recovery is a 12-step, Christ-centered recovery program for your hurts, hang-ups, or habits. Everyone is welcome! By working the steps and applying their Biblical principles, we begin to grow spiritually. We become free from our addictive, compulsive, and dysfunctional behaviors. This freedom creates peace, serenity, joy, and most importantly, a stronger relationship with God.

Not only will Celebrate Recovery help individuals recover from alcoholism and drug addiction, due to the nature of the program, it can also bring about healing and recovery from many things like co-dependency, chemical dependency and those who suffer from sexual, physical, and emotional abuse just to name a few.
Is CR for me or someone I know?
Living in a broken world we all deal with life’s hurts, hang-ups, and habits. No one has the ability, nor should they attempt to face their hurts on their own. Celebrate Recovery is a beautiful community of strugglers that courageously enter this safe and confidential space to get honest about our pain, and the negative ways we may see ourselves, God, and others. In this process we come to accept that some of the habits we may have developed to escape our pain has caused destruction in our life and those close to us.

Celebrate Recovery is a biblically balanced approach to help bring sustainable recovery and healing to our hurts. It guides us toward new healthy truths and life-giving habits as we repair our broken relationships. Join more than 7 million hurting people across the globe who now walk in freedom through the power of Jesus Christ as we walk through the 8 principles of celebrate recovery based on the Beatitudes in Matthew 5.
Who Can Attend?
Celebrate Recovery is ministry for 18 years of age and older, and is for anyone with a hurt, hang-up, or habit. Recovery is for everyone!
What is Recovery?
In physical health, recovery refers to the process of moving from illness to wellness. Our hurts, habits and hang-ups are like an illness and using the tools of Celebrate Recovery we begin to move toward wholeness. Some might say from bondage to freedom in Christ. Others might say from self-reliance to faith in Christ.
How Often Does CR Meet?
Celebrate Recovery meets every Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m., except for major holidays. We will announce church closings in advance whenever possible. If we can't meet, we'll post it on our CR Facebook page. You can also text the word CELEBRATE to 30313 to join our texting group and get notices immediately.
What If I Can't Make It Every Week?
You are welcome to come when you can. However, if you join a step study, you are expected to come each week until you complete it. As with any endeavor, the more effort you put into Celebrate Recovery, the more benefit you will gain.
Is There A Cost To Attend?
No. Celebrate Recovery does not charge for this ministry. Celebrate Recovery is self-supporting so if you choose to attend the optional dinner there is a free will offering to cover the cost of the food. Workbooks used in the “Step Study” as well as Celebrate Recovery journals and Bibles are available for purchase.
Do I Have To Be A Member of Abba's House To Attend?
No. Celebrate Recovery is open to anyone who is interested in a Christ centered recovery program that will enable them to recover from life’s hurts, habits, or hang-ups. There are attendees who are not members and may/may not attend other churches. We do encourage you to attend a loving, Bible-believing supportive church on Sundays. If you are not a part of a church, you are invited to attend Abba’s House on Sunday. Our Groups start at 9:00 a.m. and our worship service starts at 10:30 a.m. We also offer live streaming for those who are unable to attend the service in person. Please visit our website for more information at www.abbashouse.com.
How Does CR Deal With My Past Hurts?
Celebrate Recovery is forward looking. Rather than wallowing in the past or rehashing and rehearsing painful memories over and over, Celebrate Recovery focuses on the future. Regardless of what has already happened, the solution is to start making wise choices now and depend on Christ’s power to help make those changes.
What Kind of Issues Does CR Address?
Celebrate Recovery addresses all types of habits, hurts, and hang-ups. Some recovery programs deal only with alcohol or drugs or another single problem. A wide variety of hurts, hang-ups and harmful behaviors are represented at Celebrate Recovery. Examples include dependency on alcohol or drugs, pornography, low self-esteem, need to control, depression, fear of rejection, fear of abandonment, perfectionism, grief recovery, broken relationships, and abuse. It deals with issues that hold us back from living free and fully alive in Christ.
What's the Difference Between AA and CR?
The principal difference between AA (and other twelve step programs) and Celebrate Recovery is that Celebrate Recovery focuses on Jesus Christ as the true Higher Power and uses God’s Word as the authority in relation to the twelve steps. The twelve steps have a Christian heritage as they were modeled after the Oxford Society. In order to reach people who would be offended by Jesus or the Church, AA focused on a “Higher Power.”  But Celebrate Recovery’s 8 Principals to the Road to Recovery ties the twelve steps to Jesus Christ’s teaching known as the Beatitudes given on the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus Christ is our Higher Power.
Is CR Confidential?
Yes! Celebrate Recovery maintains strict confidentiality. This promotes an atmosphere of trust and enables recovery. We are diligent about confidentiality and anonymity. The guidelines and rules protect all of us from judgment and being “fixed.” In a “safe place” you take off your mask and can be real and honest without fear. You are 100% in control of when and how much you participate.
Do I Have To Share?
In the open share/small groups, absolutely not... until you are ready.  You can pass anytime you wish and for as long as it takes for you to become comfortable. Our hope is that when you realize you are not alone and there are others with the same struggles, you too will feel safe to share. This is where the healing happens.
Who are the Leaders of CR?
The leaders of Celebrate Recovery are men and women who have gone through similar addictions, hurts, hang-ups and harmful behaviors. Our leaders who have received a 9–12 month intensive Step Study training are recognized as facilitators and were trained by the Celebrate Recovery State Representatives. The leaders are not counselors and do not offer any professional clinical advice. The ministry leader is Pastor Theresa Biggs who is ordained under the ministry of Abba’s House.
